ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) affects approximately 140,000 patients in the United States each year and represents about 20% of skin cancers treated by dermatologists. Approximately 2500 patients die of SCC metastasis per year. The number of patients afflicted with SCC is growing, in part due to longer life spans, increased recreational sun exposure, and prolonged survival of immunosuppressed patients who are prone to develop SCC more than any other type of skin cancer.
