ABSTRACT
EXECUTION OF NUMERIC AND ANALYTIC CALCULATIONS ON COMPUTERS *
Introduction
This paper gives information on research in the field of software carried out in LOMI (Leningrad Division of Steklov Institute of Mathematics) regarding the following two problems:
1) Description of a system for preparing computer calculations. The essence of this system, which may be called a large-block system, is that the input into the computer is an encoded plan of a given calculation written in terms of enlarged elements and operations and this plan is to be decoded by a special program called prorab ( task manager). This program also ma nages the allocation of data in core and external memory, readdressing, etc. Thus, the complete program of a given task is never written out in explicit form: this is not our goal. The goal is to find the results of the calculation. Paradoxically, it is a system of program-less programming.
