INTRODUCTION

Vascular dementia (VaD) due to cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and ischemic

brain injury from cardiovascular disease is the most common of the secondary

dementias. Cognitive changes occurring after a stroke have been described

since the seventeenth century (1).
