ABSTRACT
A coordinate measuring system (CMS) comprises four basic elements: (1) the specimen (workpiece), (2) the operator, (3) the instrument (a coordinate measuring machine [CMM*] or similar†), and (4) the environment in which it operates. Each element is critical to the measurement process.
