ABSTRACT

Measurement uncertainty is the uncertainty of results of a measurement on a coordinate measuring system (CMS) computed according to the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM; JCGM 2008a). It is considered task-specic when a certain feature is measured using a dened inspection strategy. The state of the art in estimating this measurement uncertainty was discussed, in some detail, in a CIRP* Keynote paper in 2001 (Wilhelm, Hocken, and Schwenke 2001). This chapter brie«y discusses major points in that paper and then includes some technical developments that have occurred since that time.
