ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with structural design and the selection of structural systems for several types of
tunnel structure. Methods of construction are important in the selection of structural systems and their
details, but space does not permit this chapter to do justice to every complex method of tunnel con-
struction possible in the great variety of geologic environments that exist. The chapter includes methods
for seismic analysis of underground structures.
