How often have you picked up a flashlight and found that the battery was dead? Of course, this happened at a time when you needed it most, and no spare batteries were around. One solution is to have a flashlight that converts mechanical to electrical energy and stores the energy in a capacitor,* as shown in Figure 9.1.
