ABSTRACT
The final example of Chapter 9 (a simply supported beam with an interior-concentrated load) illustrates a difficulty in traditional beam analysis with concentrated loads. The solution procedure requires separate analyses on both sides of the load, and the solution itself requires two expressions depending upon the position of the independent variable relative to the load. We can avoid these difficulties by using singularity functions.
