ABSTRACT

The concept of laparoscopicovaginal hysterectomy was born when it was understood that the two approaches-laparoscopico-surgery and vaginal surgery-could be complementary and not rival methods, the former permitting easier performance of the latter. The requirement to couple laparoscopy to a vaginal approach can depend on the surgeon’s training (an assistance rate of 10% should not be exceeded: there are only very few indications for laparoscopic hysterectomies with ovarian conservation, while a

number of ovarectomies can be performed by a vaginal approach) and the local conditions, the most important of which is a possible or certain pathology of the adnexae.
