ABSTRACT

On December 12, 1901, Guglielmo Marconi was on Signal Hill in Newfoundland when he heard the three dots of the letter “S” come through in Morse code from 2000 mi away in Cornwall, England. This signal proved beyond doubt that wireless communications could travel tremendous distances and even around the curvature of the Earth. Marconi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for this achievement in 1909.
