ABSTRACT

Vegetation is one of the most critical components of the biosphere. Most forms of life on Earth depend on it either directly or indirectly for food, and some use it to provide safety or security. Man also depends on it for some forms of fuel and fibre. Vegetation has been crucial in creating and maintaining the atmospheric conditions that are amenable to other forms of life on Earth. In addition to these essential values of vegetation, it is valuable for many aesthetic reasons to the majority of people, such as for the provision of flowers, and the provision of forest and other recreational areas.
