ABSTRACT

Professional futurists — at least the honest ones — usually hedge their divinations with caveats and supply relatively vague notions of where the telecom industry is headed. Our Ouija board is no better than theirs. What we can do is look at some trends that will most certainly affect costs and feature availability in the next three to five years. We know that some basic laws, such as “there is no free lunch,” will not be repealed, contrary to the expectations of the “free calls over the Internet” enthusiasts.
