ABSTRACT

The use of microwave ovens in organic synthesis including catalytic organic reactions has also been of considerable recent interest. (4) Primarily this

interest stems from greatly reduced reaction times for reactions conducted with microwave radiation compared to conventional thermal methods of heating. Coupling reactions such as Suzuki-Miyaura, Heck, Sonogashira have been demonstrated using microwave irradiation using homogeneous, nano-particle and heterogeneous catalysts. (5) Pd/C has been used in a microwave oven for transfer hydrogenation catalysis. (6a) However, the purpose of this study was to ascertain the suitability of Pd/C as a catalyst for microwave synthesis in the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction.
