ABSTRACT
If the whole history of human civilization was compressed into a day, then modern telecommunications (the telegraph in 1837 and all that followed) would only represent the last 30 s. That is how recent all of this development has been. But within that timeframe, much has happened. In that last half a minute, we have achieved a great deal more than what we did during the rest of the day, and progress continues to accelerate.
