GIS plays a variety of roles in the planning and management of the dynamic and complex U.S. healthcare system. Although still at an early stage of integration into public healthcare planning, GIS has shown its capability to answer a diverse range of questions relating to the key goals of efficiency, effectiveness, and equity of the provision of public health services.
