Bioscience. research,. diagnostic,. and. clinical. laboratories. also.have. a. critical.role.to.play.in.countering.the.threat.of.bioterrorism..In.fact,.bioterrorism.has. been.appropriately.described.as.a.“deliberately.re-emerging.infectious.disease.”2. These. laboratories. are.on. the. front. lines.of. emerging.and. reemerging.disease:. not.only.are.they.called.on.to.respond.to.outbreaks.of.infectious.disease.but.their. research.will.pave.the.way.for.new.vaccines.and.therapies.to.counter.these.diseases..There.is.little.doubt.that.the.advance.of.bioscience.—.and.the.daily.work. of.bioscience.institutions.—.represents.the.world’s.best.defense.against.the.threat. of.bioterrorism.
