The uses of soluble silica are reviewed in a concise manner. Ideas originally summarized by Ralph K. Iler

are expanded and discussed with up-to-date references. Key technological factors associated with the appli-

cation of soluble silica in the broad categories are described. The categories are: Adhesives, binders, and

deflocculants; Cleaners and detergents; and Raw materials. These technological factors are related to

current understanding of the chemical properties of these complex inorganic polymer solutions.
