ABSTRACT

Since the discovery of cisplatin ( cis-diamminedichloroplatinumll) or cD D P in 1965 ( 1) by its antibacterial action, the drug has become one of the most active and widely used anticancer drugs. Cisplatin has a proven efficacy against a variety of malignancies and is used in the treatment of solid tumors such as ovarian and testicular cancer, as well as head and neck, lung, and cervical carcinomas; breast cancer is also recognized as a potential target for cisplatin therapy. Furthermore, it is also used in combination chemotherapy for a variety of other malignancies. Extraordinarily good results are attained in the treatment of testicular cancer. Moreover, in ovarian cancer, remission rates of up to 50% have been documented (2).
