While distributed sensor signal processing goes back a long way, a recent development is the implementation of wireless links for sensor communication. Typically, distributed nodes in a wireless sensor network (WSN) are battery powered and the network has access to only a finite portion of the spectrum. This leads to both power and bandwidth constrained wireless communication between sensing nodes and the fusion nodes. Securing reliable communication over a wireless channel is a challenging task due to physical properties of the wireless medium. Hence, channel-induced errors need to be taken into account in order to achieve optimal data fusion/detection in distributed wireless sensor systems. In recent years, many authors have investigated various aspects of distributed

processing in resource-constrained wireless sensor networks. In this chapter, we provide a tutorial exposition of those recent contributions.1
