ABSTRACT

Cooperative antenna (COOPA) systems have recently gained a lot of interest, as they promise significantly higher performance compared to conventional cellular mobile systems like global system for mobile communication (GSM) or 3G. COOPAs are multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) systems which inherently combine features like intercell interference (ICI) cancelation, macrodiversity, spatial multiplexing, and exploit the rank enhancement of the channel matrix. From a practical point of view mobile stations (MS) with low complexity and base stations (BS) with and one or two antenna elements per radio station might be used.
