ABSTRACT

This chapter is meant to be a basic guide for nontoxicologists or nonexperts in

developmental and reproductive toxicology (DART) who are responsible for contracting

chemical safety studies to outside laboratories and need help in understanding the subject

enough to be able to use the appropriate terminology, review protocols, interpret study

results, and understand the implications of specific findings to risk assessment. It is not

the purpose of this review to discuss specific methodology or specific agents and their

mechanisms of toxicity. If the reader is interested, the following books are excellent

sources for further inquiries into this area of toxicology (1-5).
