ABSTRACT

Metabolism (M) and toxicokinetic studies constitute a part of the overall toxicological

evaluation of chemicals. Studies are designed to obtain information on the fate of the

compound in the organism; therefore, they focus more on the behavior and less on the effect

of the compound. The information developed permits a more complete understanding of

the relationship between chemical exposure and toxicity. The focus of this chapter is

toxicokinetic study design, data analysis, and data interpretation, as applied to the

understanding of health effects, with particular reference to regulatory guidelines.
