ABSTRACT
The Need for a Formal Selection Process Although it is possible to select packaged software based on (1) a sales presentation, (2) another company’s experience with the system, or (3) the fact that the company already uses other products from that vendor, a formal selection process, outlining specific requirements and evaluating the ability of a number of products to meet those requirements, will increase the probability of project success. It should be noted that although this process is used most frequently for application software, it can also be applied to the selection of system software and productivity tools.
