ABSTRACT

The level of maturity of Model Driven Architecture (MDA•) can be judged by the fact that key concepts from MDA are beginning to be infused into a model-based approach to architecture and systems engineering. As seen in Chapter 15 (“Toward Systems of Systems and NetworkEnabled Capabilities”), MDA can be a key enabler of SoS. It will be seen in this chapter that MDA has demonstrated the utility of shifting from a document-based approach to architecture to a modelbased approach. Model transforms will be seen to be at the heart of software system design in MDA. They will also be seen as a key link between the use of architecture models in systems analysis and design, and the systems engineering approach to design. Architecture and networks will be seen as integrating functions for SoS.
