ABSTRACT

Many traditional software project managers may have a complete schedule of what they think needs to be done based on earlier estimations. Tracking is based on both of these sections of the planning schedule. Many companies create planning packages from the estimations made at proposal time. Tasks executed or being executed is equivalent to work packages for that activity group’s planning package. Traditional approaches to planning packages convert planning packages to work packages as work progresses. The software project manager needs the integration plan to order tasks correctly on the project schedule for maximized efficiency. The practitioners dreaded the old method and loved the new one. Because of word-of-mouth advertising, other parts of the company also wanted the author to train their folks on this new approach. Tracking is great if nothing changes between the planning schedule roadmap and the actual work being done.
