ABSTRACT
The law has a major impact on the practice of medicine subjecting physicians to duties and
obligations far beyond that experienced by other professions. Imagine the press, media, or
lawyers, for that matter, living under the increasingly complex system of rules and regulations
that have made medicine what it is today. Lawyers make the rules, lawyers interpret them,
lawyers prosecute them, andwe pay lawyers to help us survive them. It is a system to which we
are required to submit for the “privilege” of practicing medicine.
