ABSTRACT

In Chapter 4, we provided an overview of the semantic Web. In this chapter we focus on securing the semantic Web with emphasis on confidentiality. In particular, eXtensible Markup Language (XML) security, resource description framework (RDF) security, and securing other components such as secure ontologies and secure Web rules will be discussed. Each of the components of the semantic Web will be elaborated on in Chapters 6, 7, 8, and 9. Other aspects of securing the semantic Web such as privacy and trust will also be discussed. This chapter will also include a discussion of secure applications for the semantic Web such as secure Web services as well as specialized semantic Webs.
