ABSTRACT
In Chapter 3 we discussed digital libraries and provided an overview of the security issues. In this chapter we will elaborate on secure digital libraries so that the reader can understand better some of the challenges and then discuss the application of semantic Web technologies for digital libraries, For example, ontologies, annotations, and inference engines are being applied for digital libraries. However, trustworthy semantic Web technologies including secure eXtensible Markup Language (XML), Resource Description Framework (RDF), and Web Ontology Language (OWL) as well as policy enforcement and reasoning about the policies for digital libraries have received very little attention.
