ABSTRACT

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been widely used in many wireless communication systems due to its attractive technical features. However, some challenging issues still remain unresolved in OFDM wireless communication systems, and one of them is its sensitivity to the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of transmitted signals. This chapter emphasizes on summarizing most of the existing schemes of PAPR reduction, which is based on a complete investigation of the characteristics of OFDM signals including the distribution of the PAPR in OFDM wireless communication systems. It provides an effective criteria for PAPR reduction. Moreover, it also discusses the PAPR reduction for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-OFDM broadband wireless communication systems.
