Through the action of alcohols and air, the aqueous medium is eliminated from the section, to:
➫ Postfixation by precipitating fixatives
• Avoid any dilution of reagents in subsequent steps
• Protect the samples against the action of RNase and DNase
➫ RNase and DNase are inactive in the absence of water.
