ABSTRACT
For survival and effi cient growth under normal conditions, cells must be able to maintain the majority of their proteins in native conformations, and to recover or degrade proteins damaged during stress challenges. All organisms thus face a protein-folding problem, which is the requirement to convert their proteins from random coil or partially folded conformations into homogeneous, precisely folded states.
