ABSTRACT
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), like
Alzheimer’s disease and atherosclerosis, is a late-
onset degenerative disease. The multifactorial nature
of these diseases has made the search for absolute
genetic contributions challenging. However, recent
advances in the study of genetic associations with
AMD have provided evidence that there may
be strong genetic contributions to this disease.
