ABSTRACT

Superficial thrombophlebitis (STP) or superficial vein thrombosis most often affects the

veins of the lower extremities although it may be found in any superficial vein of the body.

Because most physicians consider it as a benign condition, its treatment is usually

conservative with elastic stockings (ES), ambulation, antibiotics, and nonsteroidal anti-

inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) (1-4). Patients with STP near to the deep veins have been

treated with anticoagulation or ligation.
