ABSTRACT

In most environments, servers aren’t typically utilized as workstations. That being said, work by an administrator is not, for the most part, performed directly on a VMware ESX host. Different types of servers have different types of interfaces used to configure the applications and services running. An example of this would include using different native components, such as using the computer management snap-in for local or remote configurations of Windows systems. Through the console GUI, Windows servers can also be used as a workstation. Meanwhile, VMware ESX is not designed to be used as a workstation; however, one common method of thought is that it should be treated as an appliance.
