ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the high-level reasoning and purpose for an adaptive security management architecture (ASMA) and goes on to explain changes in the business environment to demonstrate the alignment of the ASMA to the challenges of today and tomorrow. The adaptive security management architecture seeks to take advantage of existing security practices and build upon them to promote the value of security to a business and to ensure a meaningful security posture. The ASMA closes the gap between business needs and security needs and will redefine security in the eyes of a business to be seen as a valuable, enabling force. The four influencers are: economy, technology, data centricity and regulation. Within the context of change and the four influencers, businesses are focused on ensuring adaptability, execution, efficiency, and effectiveness in all aspects of the business to ensure long-term stability and growth. Efficiency is simply accomplishing what is needed with as little expenditure of resources as possible.
