ABSTRACT

Most of the thermoplastic materials produced in the plastics industry can be injection blow molded. The earliest plastic to be used for this process was cellulose, which was later followed by polystyrene-predominately crystal polystyrene because of its water clarity-used to package over-the-counter headache medicines. These packages still are used today; however, other resins such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyproprene, high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, comonomers, polysulfone, polycarbonate, acetal, nylon, acrylic, barex, elastomers, thermoplastic olefins, acrylic butadiene styrene, polyamide, polyethylene naphthalate, and the new metallocenes are now all being injection blow molded.
