ABSTRACT

This chapter is a general introduction to continuous process improvement. It discusses the organizational infrastructures required to sustain process improvement, dwells on definitions of measures and basic elements of measurement programs, and covers modern Six Sigma and Enterprise Knowledge Development (EKD) methodologies. Later chapters focus on specific applications to system and software development, including high maturity practices of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). Chapter 10 concludes with a case study integrating several tools and techniques presented in the book, and demonstrates how process improvement is achieved in a Scrum agile development environment using EKD organizational patterns for knowledge management and Six Sigma for process improvement.
