ABSTRACT

The botulinum toxins have made a very significant impact on our ability to manage disabling neuromuscular symptoms in a variety of conditions. In particular the management of people with dystonia has been revolutionized by the advent of botulinum toxin in clinical practice. The use of toxins for the management of spasticity in, for example, traumatic brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy has also made a significant impact on our ability to manage this painful and disabling problem. The development of botulinum toxins for clinical usage is a fascinating story and is briefly described in Chapter 1.
