ABSTRACT

Wireless signals transmitted over the wireless propagation channel are subject to a number of impairments and effects that must be characterized to ease the conception and design of wireless systems-especially antenna systems and receivers. Since the radio propagation channel has been widely covered and characterized in the literature, this book limits the description to an overview and only emphasizes fundamentals and aspects mostly relevant to system design and capacity estimation. In system design, the objective is to maximize capacity and operation under various propagation conditions. For HSDPA, the requirement is to achieve this optimization for urban environments.
