ABSTRACT

Thoracic hemorrhage may be traumatic or nontraumatic in origin. It is invariably life

threatening and formerlly surgery was the only means of controlling such bleeding. Since

1970 embolization has become a widely used alternative treatment for bleeding from the lungs,

and stent-grafting increasingly effective for bleeding from the aorta and great vessels. This

chapter will deal with those causes of thoracic hemorrhage where embolization is most

appropriate. These include bronchial artery hemorrhage and pulmonary hemorrhage related

to penetrating trauma.
