ABSTRACT

Vascular malformations are uncommon but important lesions, with a significant morbidity,

wide spectrum of appearance and symptoms and occasional mortality. They occur in all parts

of the body and may present at almost any age. Misdiagnosis and mismanagement of these

conditions is common and few vascular centers encounter sufficient cases to allow confident

treatment protocols to develop. Presentation to a particular speciality depends on the

symptoms involved. Many vascular specialists, dermatologists, plastic, and orthopedic

surgeons will however encounter the occasional case and it is important that appropriate

initial assessment is performed. We believe that a multidisciplinary approach to patient

management leads to optimal outcome.
