ABSTRACT

A variety of effective surgical options exists for the treatment of patients with symptomatic cervical disc herniation. The anterior approach allows direct visualization of the interspace and decompression of the cervical spinal cord and nerve roots. The anterior approach also allows interbody fusion, if required. This approach has proven to be safe and effective and may be used for treating multiple segment disease. It is associated with minimal morbidity and mortality in large retrospective studies (1).
