ABSTRACT

In the preface to the first edition of this book, Tony Kennedy wrote: “The audience for this book will most likely include those in drug development and project management, as well as pharmaceutical industry consultants and project managers in other industries, for example, chemical and food.” He was absolutely right. Therefore, it was logical that a manager from a chemical company was asked to contribute to the second edition of this book. It also reflects the increasingly important interaction between pharmaceutical and chemical companies and the resulting challenges for the project managers in both industries. In the following chapter, the chemical industry’s view of pharmaceutical projects will be described and some of the key success factors for projects will be discussed.
