ABSTRACT

Good plans shape good decisions. That’s why good planning helps to make elusive dreams come true.

Many people built a prototype of the wrong thing. For instance, they invested a lot of time and

resources making a system prototype when only a subsystem prototype was necessary, or built

a prototype when a model or simulation would have resulted in the same conclusion. Of course,

in prototyping activities, there are always risks involved. However, spending 90% of the

resources to address a 10% risk area is not a good strategy. Modeling and virtual prototyping

are powerful tools in prototyping, especially in the early stage. A model may not be able to

come up with the exact solution to a problem, however, it may be able to provide answers to

. Which approaches will work?
