ABSTRACT

The vertebral column, or backbone, is divided into five regions, namely cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal [74], as is schematically shown in Figure 8.1. There are 24 individual bony segments, known as vertebrae, in addition to the sacral and coccygeal ones that are fused. Each vertebra consists of an anterior body and
