ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 VITAMINS Vitamins are frequently taken by the general public to correct nutritional deficiencies and to prevent disease. In pregnancy, vitamins are often taken to help with the symptoms of pregnancy (vitamin B6 for nausea), to help prevent anemia (vitamin B12) and to support newborn blood clotting (vitamin K). In the case of some vitamins, such as vitamin A, too high a dose may be associated with teratogenic effects.
