ABSTRACT
This chapter is concerned with the analysis of studies in medicine in which a continuous response variable is observed under the levels of one or more categorical variables (factors). The appropriate statistical procedure for such data is
analysis of variance
. In addition, it is often the case that other continuous variables thought to be associated with the response variable need to be accounted for in any analysis, in which case the relevant methodology is
analysis of covariance.
