ABSTRACT

The Taguchi [1] loss function emphasizes the need to identify the factors that contribute to changes in the variability (dispersion). These factors are called dispersion factors. In previous chapters, we focused our attention on the factors that contribute to changes in location. Before we study dispersion and its impact on experiments, consider the following graphs that illustrate four scenarios. Factors that affect the location but do not affect the dispersionScenario 1: can be represented as in Figure 4.1.
