ABSTRACT
Polymer characterization by analytical pyrolysis often necessitates a detailed understanding of how polymer degradation proceeds by heating
in vacuo
or in an inert atmosphere. Yet it is not an easy task to elucidate the degradation pathway of condensation polymers with heteroatoms in their backbone chains, because thermal degradation yields a number of complex polar compounds.
