Fatty esters have long been used as vehicles for the preparation of pigment dispersions and as oil phases in cosmetic products. The term
esters
covers a variety of products that have different functionality in pigmented systems. In this chapter we shall review the types of esters used in pigment grinding and in pigmented systems generally, as well as review some formulations using these versatile materials.
